The Super Falcons of Nigeria produced a dominant second-half display to beat Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses 3-0 in the second of two international friendlies at Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, on Monday, June 9, 2026.
After a cagey first half that finished goalless, Nigeria found its stride in the second period and ran out comfortable victors before a jubilant home crowd.
The contest began with early urgency. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade swung in a first-minute set-piece that failed to find a taker, and shortly afterwards forward Joy Omewa came close with a dangerous chance.
Despite sustained pressure, the Falcons could not break the deadlock in the opening stages, with a 13th-minute effort drifting wide.
Gift Monday proved a constant menace, repeatedly testing the Senegalese backline and helping keep the tempo high.
Omewa nearly opened the scoring in the 15th minute when she rounded the goalkeeper, only for her shot to crash off the woodwork as the first half ended 0-0.
Three minutes into the second half the deadlock finally broke. In the 48th minute Shukurat Oladipo whipped in a perfectly timed cross and Joy Omewa met it with a thumping header to put Nigeria ahead.
That opener settled the Super Falcons. Confidence and control quickly followed, and in the 55th minute Omewa doubled the lead, powering past the Teranga Lionesses’ defence and calmly slotting home her second of the game.
The Falcons’ superiority continued to show in the 66th minute when captain Rasheedat Ajibade drove forward on a trademark surge and fed substitute Asisat Oshoala, who had come on for Omewa, to finish and make it 3–0.
The result capped an impressive display from the Super Falcons: they turned second-half dominance into goals while remaining compact at the back. The performance underlined the squad’s attacking depth and resilience, giving the Cup-holders encouraging momentum ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
