Nigeria’s World U20 team has departed Lagos bound for Eugene, Oregon, carrying the nation’s hopes for a breakout performance at the World U20 Championships.
The 15-athlete squad arrives with depth across track and field events and a clear ambition: turn this global meet into a launchpad for the next generation of Nigerian stars.
Among the delegation are sprinters and jumpers expected to challenge for finals and medals.
Notably, Jessica Oji and Miracle Ezechukwu will link up with the rest of the team in Eugene after competing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in the United Kingdom, giving the duo valuable international racing experience and momentum heading into the world meet.
It’s worthy to note that Nigeria has a proud youth athletics tradition and has used U20 global meets to introduce athletes who later became senior champions. Strong performances here often translate to senior-level breakthroughs.
