Chairman of the committee, Goni Lawan, (Yobe-APC), who addressed newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday after a meeting with the ministry officials, said it was the resolution of the entire house.
He said the committee and officials of the ministry had agreed to meet with representatives of all the sports federations on June 1, to amicably resolve all differences.
“We are calling on the ministry to suspend the federations’ elections it has fixed and also to reverse its decision as a ministry that dissolved the boards of sports federations,” he said.
The permanent secretary in the ministry, Mr. Salau Abdulrazzaq, had informed the committee that the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, was out of the country on medical vacation.
He appealed to the committee to suspend the resolution to reverse the decision of the ministry until the minister returned.
The permanent secretary said the minister would return from his medical vacation on May 31.
Abdulrazzaq explained that though he was acting in the absence of the minister, he was a civil servant and could not decide on such a policy matters.
NAN reports that the Dalung had in a statement on May 5, 2017, announced the dissolution of all boards of the sports federations.
He said the dissolution was to ensure a level playing ground and a free and fair elections ahead of the forthcoming general elections into the boards.
