Pensioners decry non-payment of May pension

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) said on Thursday that the non-payment of the May pension had caused hardship to pensioners across the country.

Dr. Abel Afolayan, the National President of the union in a statement in Abuja, decried the non-payment of May pension to pensioners.

“Many of these pensioners are well advanced in age and have therefore become special species on account of their health and old age.

“All efforts made to find out why the May pension was not paid received no proper and convincing explanation from the Federal Government pay agencies,’’ Afolayan said.

He, therefore, appealed to the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to as a matter of urgency intervene and ensure that their May pension was paid without further delay.

“This is to ameliorate the suffering of our members across the nation,

“Government should as well make it a deliberate policy that pensioners are paid latest by 25th of every month,” he said.

Afolayan said that one of the best legacies that this government would bequeath to the nation was recognising and appreciating the labour and services of past heroes.
