The command’s Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Babalola Olanrewaju, who confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Tuesday, said that the suspect had been taken into police custody for further investigation.
NAN reports that both the suspect and victim are residents of Anguwa Soje around Kpankungu in Chanchaga local government area of the state.
The victim’s mother, (Name withheld) told NAN that her daughter “started running temperature” on Aug. 27 and was taken to the hospital for medical attention.
“When we got home from the hospital, she said she wanted to urinate, after she finished urinating, I saw blood inside the urine, I checked her private part and I noticed bruises.
“When my husband returned home, we took her to the hospital again and was attended to by a Nurse who told us that our daughter was raped and blood kept coming out of her private part.
“The girl was unable to walk. The following day, I bought biscuit for her and I asked her if anyone touched her private part, she said it was Uncle Moses.
“That was when my husband and I went to the suspect’s house to inform his mother.
“When the suspect was called upon, he denied raping my daughter and threatened to kill my daughter and himself. Then he took my daughter and ran away to an unknown destination.
“We immediately informed the police who came and arrested the suspect’s mother before he decided to return home with my daughter and was arrested by the police.
“The police then took us to their clinic where she was admitted for blood transfusion to save her life because she lost a lot of blood,” she said.
Mrs. Mairam Kolo, Director-General of the state Child Right Protection Agency, condemned the act, and described it as “ungodly and inhumane act on an innocent child.”
She cautioned parents to always monitor their children and the peers they associated with so as to guard them against all forms of abuses.
