Embassy of Israel intercepts 21 allegedly involved in visa fraud

The Embassy of Israel in Nigeria has intercepted 21 Nigerians allegedly involved in organised visa-fraud, an official has said.

Mr. Tony Obiechina, Senior Media and Political Officer of the Embassy of Israel, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

Obiechina said that the embassy was able to detect the fraud by making use of Israel’s advanced tools and techniques to fish out fraudulent applications.

He said the magnitude of the crime necessitated that the issue be reported to the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the public for proper investigation and prevention of such acts in the future.

“The embassy does not usually publicise issues like this but due to the number of people involved and the organised method, it is important to keep the people informed about these developments so that we can collectively improve the system.

“These acts hurt the reputation of Nigeria and elongate the visa processing time for genuine applicants.

“The individuals, all the relevant details and the names of the individuals involved have been submitted to the appropriate authorities,’’ he said.
