Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose on Monday commiserated with the Catholic Church of Nigeria, government and people of Anambra, as well as the families of victims of the Sunday Church attack in Ozubulu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that gunmen on Sunday attacked worshipers at the St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra, killing eight and leaving scores injured.
Fayose, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, described the attack as “a dangerous dimension to the series of senseless killings in the country”.
“The killers are not only wicked, but devilish; the security agencies should carry out a thorough investigation and bring them to justice.
“Killing fellow human beings is devilish; nothing is worse that doing that in the house of God,” he said.
While calling for values reorientation in the country, Fayose urged Nigerians to look inward so as to find out what was actually wrong with the nation and its nationals.
“It is time for us as a nation to have another look at our moral values. What has happened to our conscience? Is it still there? Why does it go to sleep and would not prick us when we kill one another so casually?
“The killings have become so cheap and ordinary – Boko Haram in the northeast, Badoo in Lagos, herdsmen across the country, and ritual killings everywhere. Why have we lost our respect for human life?” he asked.
