An international group, International Peace Commission (IPC), with affiliation to the United Nations, has condemned the killing at Ozubulu, St. Philips Catholic Church in Ekwusigo Local government area of Anambra state, describing it a gruesome murder of innocent Nigerians.
The Church was attacked by some unknown gunmen on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the early morning Mass when worshipers were almost at the end of the Mass, killing certain number of people and lot went away with serious gunshot injury.
The national president and head of mission in Nigeria, Ambassador Obiora Anthony Oduma, said “the IPC Nigeria received with great shock and uttermost dismay, news of the gruesome murder of innocent Nigerian worshippers at St, Phillips Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Anambra State, on Sunday 6th August, 2017”.
Obiora said IPC Nigeria is committed to the wellbeing and peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians, and condemns in strongest terms, the terrible incident saying, “It is against the ideals of the Commission.”
“We wish to extend our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the victims, their families, the Nigerian Catholic Church, and the good people and government of Anambra State.
“United by our unwavering commitment and shared aspiration of the peaceful coexistence of all peoples, the IPC in these trying times, stand with the People of Anambra State in our shared quest to restore peace to the State, especially in the face of the coming gubernatorial elections, for which many pundits are already predicting doom,” Obiora said.
The IPC joins all well meaning Nigerians in calling for the thorough investigation of the incident and the prosecution of culprits found culpable, to the full extent of the law.
