Sallah...Remember the disabled while you celebrate |
The Office of the Senior to the President on Disability (PLWDs) Matters has distributed food items to Persons Living With Disabilities for the Sallah celebration.
This was just as the Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Dr. Garba Abari, called on Muslims, to exhibit the virtues of sacrifice, peace, love and tolerance as they celebrate the Eid-El-Kabir.
Dr. Samuel Ankeli, SSA to the President on PLWDS donated the
items on Thursday in Abuja in collaboration with the Federal Civil Service
Staff with Disabilities Multipurpose Cooperative Society (FCSSDMCS).
Ankeli said that the PLWDs needed to be treated in special
manner especially in the periods of celebration and merriment.
According to him, there was no criteria for selecting
beneficiaries as messages were sent across the country and only those within
reach came to collect their share.
He enjoined Nigerians to use the Ed-el-Kabir period to
promote virtues that would promote peace and development of the country.
“Nigerians should be more tolerant and patient with one
another, discarding any threat to the peace of the nation.
“In the spirit of the sallah celebration, I want you all to
promote peace in the country. We must all live as one.
“No individual greed and selfishness should cajole us to
disintegrate the country through religious differences.”
He also charged Christians and Muslims to dedicate special
worship days in the month of September to pray for President Muhammadu Buhari.
The SSA disclosed that the president has promised to
establish a disability commission once the disability bill was passed, adding
that this was the right of Nigerians living with disabilities.
He also said that plans were underway for them to be trained
by the United Nations.
In his remarks, Alhaji Abdul-Rauf Iliasu, chairman of the
FCSSDMCS, thanked the SSA for driving the campaign to empower the PLWDs in
Nigeria.
Iliasu also said that in the spirit of Sallah, Nigerians
should learn to tolerate one another to promote unity in the country.
He commended President Muhammadu Buhari for establishing the
office of the SSA on Disability matters to focus and address the challenges of
PLWDs in the country.
Mrs. Patience Edward, one of the beneficiaries of the food
items, thanked the donors for their generosity and for putting smiles on their
faces.
“I really appreciate the efforts of the SSA and the
Cooperative Society for making us smile this Sallah.
“It is not easy to provide these items, I pray God replenish
their pockets.”
Another beneficiary, Ibrahim Haruna, also commended the kind
gesture of the donors for remembering them during this Sallah season.
He noted that this act of kindness has made the PLWDs in the
society feel special and accepted in the society.
Items
distributed included 40 bags of rice, 50 cartons of Indomie and 10 cartons of
vegetable oil with over 150 Muslims and Christians
benefitted from the items.
Similarly, the NOA, which called on Muslims, to exhibit the
virtues of sacrifice, peace, love and tolerance as they celebrate the
Eid-El-Kabir, urged the Muslim Ummah to use the 2017 celebration to renew their
commitment to unity of the nation and brotherhood
Abari, in a statement issued by the Head of Press Unit of
NOA, Mr. Paul Odenyi, urged the Muslim Ummah to use the 2017 celebration to
renew their commitment to unity of the nation and brotherhood.
“Peace, love and hard work are preconditions for development
in any country. This period of Eid-el-Kabir should remind us of that virtue in
order to build our country.
“I call on all Nigerians to continue to support the present
administration to deliver on its promises in line with the change agenda.
“The progress, unity and development of any country can only
be achieved in a peaceful atmosphere.
“I also urge all Muslims to be law abiding and security
conscious,” Abari said, assuring that the Federal Government had put in place
measures to ensure peaceful.
