Chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue (BIR), Alhaji Adamu Damji has appealed to Court Registrars in the State to remit revenues collected from court fines and charges.
Alhaji Damji, who made the call through Mr. Wesley Audu, while going round Area and Upper Area courts in Gombe metropolis said the revenues generated in the courts belongs to the government and not for personal use.
According to him, the board will soon introduce the modern way of remitting all fines and charges been collected in all the Area and Upper Area Courts across the State directly to the government coffers through the use of POS and other online means of payments.
He regretted that some courts don’t remit what they collected but rather use it for something else. He stated that it has now become necessary to remit all revenues because Government needs the money to continue providing the needed development projects for the state.
The BIR chairman explained further that as soon as the modern way of remitting the revenues start working, the office of the Chief Registrar of the State High Court will have access and monitor transactions of all payment made by the courts.
The Chief Registrar in the Gombe State High Court then cautioned the Area and Upper Area Court Registrars and their assistants against flaunting the order and emphasized that there is consequences for anyone found guilty.
While also calling on them to avoid under charging or over charging clients, Barrister Auwal Haruna said that in no distant time, they will be going round other courts in all the 11 LGAs in the state for the same mission.
