The newly posted Commissioner of Police to the Gombe State Police Command, Mr. Olukolu Shina, has taken over affairs with a pledged to uphold the anti-corruption policy thrust of the present administration.
He stated this Monday afternoon while officially taking over from his predecessor, Mr. Austin Iwar, in the presence of senior and junior officers of the command.
According to him, the mission and vision of the present Inspector-General of the Police on Community Policing would be strictly followed and assured the people of the State that he would sustain and even aim to improve on the gains made by the out-gone commissioner of police in the area of fighting crimes in the State.
He said policing is a collective responsibility and therefore called on the people of the state to cooperate with the command in divulging information to the police at all times to help in fighting crime.
To the officers as well as the rank and file of the command, Mr. Shina said “You must do all that needs to be done at all times rather than waiting for me. I promise to operate and open door police for everyone to be able to contribute to our success.”
Earlier in his farewell speech, the out-going police commissioner, Mr. Austin Iwar, said the crime prevention and community safety strategy developed and implemented by the exceptional commitment of officers of the command and the overwhelming support of the government and people of Gombe state, resulted in managing crime to a satisfactory level.
“Our collective effort in line with our shared aspiration yielded fruitful results as we are today bequeathing a safer state with improved security, better from what we inherited,” he stated.
He said during his tenure, “we were able to humble and tame the notorious Yan-Kalare gang such that their menaces were suppressed to the barest minimum. Indeed gone are the days when the fear of Yan-Kalare was the beginning of wisdom.
Rather, we have together made them desperately denounce the sect in large numbers while the recalcitrant ones have perpetually remained on the run, gone underground and hiding from day light like vampires.
