The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI) have donated food and building materials to 15 households affected by Kufai communal attack in Billiri Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Presenting the relief materials at the Palace of the Mai Tangle, Dr. Abdu Buba Maisheru, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Dr. Danlami Arabs Rukujei said the food items were from SEMA while the building materials were from PCNI.
Dr. Rukujei said the relief was coming now rather than June, when the incident occurred because the agency could not come during the crises, more so that an assessment team had to go round before ascertaining level of destruction and what could be donated.
He called for continuous diplomatic engagements and relations between communities in the area so that conflicts could be easily managed before it escalates to a destructive level.
“We really sympathize with all members of the community and we are trusting God that we do not come back here again for this kind of event and that possibly, this should be the last time misunderstanding should arise,” he appealed.
Responding on behalf of victims of the attack, Reverend Jeremiah Samson expressed surprise at Government’s intervention towards their plight stressing that no such help has ever come to them whenever they faced such king of attacks. He expressed gratitude and said the materials will greatly help in reviving them back from their losses.
Building materials donated include 75 pieces ceiling boards, 15 bags of three inch nails, 45 bundles of roofing zincs and 75 bags of cement while the food items included 25 bags of 100kg maize, 15 bags of 100kg millet, five 25 littres jerry-cans of palm oil and a carton of soap.
Kufai village, according to the inhabitants, was attacked sometime in June this year by a neighbouring community where a Policeman was reportedly killed.
