Nigeria's former Vice-President, Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme, is dead.
A statement issued Sunday night by his elder brother, Igwe, Prof Laz Ekwueme, the family said the revered politician died peacefully in a London clinic, where he was flown exactly a week earlier by the Nigerian government for further treatment.
The short statement reads:
“The Ekwueme family regrets to announce the peaceful passing away of their patriarch, the former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme GCON.
"The sad event occurred at The London Clinic at 10:00 pm on Sunday 19th November 2017.”
The 85-year-old statesman was first treated at a local hospital in Enugu after collapsing at his Independence Layout residence in the Coal City on Saturday, October 28, 2017.
