Gov Dankwambo and Sen Goje |
By Danjuma Attah, Gombe
A group of elders in Gombe State known as Gombe State Concerned Citizens has lashed out on Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje over what they described as unwarranted attack on Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo during the condolence visit of the wife of the president, Hajiya Aisha Buhari.
Senator Goje, immediate past governor of the State, had last Friday, during the First Lady’s condolence visit in his residence over the demise of his wife, Hajiya Fatima Yelwa Danjuma Goje, described Governor Dankwambo as a betrayer, who only turned up in his house because of the First Lady’s condolence visit since he became governor in 2011.
Video clip of Goje’s outburst had gone virile on social media, which the group said was strange and unwarranted.
But speaking during an international press conference, the group condemned Senator Goje’s vituperations before the First Lady and said, “the people of Gombe State take a special note of the activities of these enemies of progress, who by extension are the real enemies of our State and country in general, as they are trying by all means to mask their past inadequacies while in office through cheap campaigns of calumny.”
Speaking on behalf of the group, AIG Abdulmunmini Abubakar (rtd), a former ambassador, said, “We would like to tender our unreserved apology to the wife of the President and her husband, Muhammadu Buhari, for this unfortunate embarrassment she encountered during her condolence visit to Gombe State.”
They commended Governor Dankwambo for the matured manner he handled the situation.
Abdulmumini said, “the entire people of Gombe State and many others alike, were actually taken by surprise and shocked, including the wife of the president and her entire entourage at what Goje shamelessly said in his welcome address to Her Excellency, when he emotionally expressed that Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo never paid him a visit since he was sworn-in as Governor of Gombe State on May, 29, 2011 despite several deaths and other calamities that befell his family, even though, according to him (Goje), Late Hajiya Yelwa Danjuma Goje was instrumental and approved Dankwambo’s candidature and ensured his victories at the polls.
They appealed to Dankwambo to remain focused and steadfast so as not to allow the “wrangling of these disgruntled elements” to derail his government in his determination to transform the State to a model for others to emulate.
