Two of the four policemen declared missing by the Benue State Police Command, have been found unhurt after 24 hours.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, confirmed this in a tellephone interview with Channels Television on Sunday.
According to him, the duo has also rejoined the Mobile Police Force team deployed in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of the state.
Owoseni was, however, optimistic that the remaining two policemen would equally return to base safely.
“Yes, I can confirm that two out of the four policemen declared missing after Saturdays’ attack on our patrol team in Ayilamo by suspected herdsmen, have rejoined their colleague unhurt,” he said.
“We are hoping that the other two policemen will rejoin the team safely,” he added.
The Police Commissioner had confirmed that four policemen got missing on Saturday after suspected herdsmen ambushed a police mobile force patrol team in Logo LGA.
He had also said the attackers set one of the patrol vehicles ablaze during the ambush which occurred around 2:30 pm when the policemen were returning from an operation in some villages in the local government.
“The Command would like to report that in furtherance of its confidence-building strategy and strengthening its visibility, Police Mobile Force Teams conducted a robust patrol of Ayilemo in Logo LGA today, 10th February 2018,” Owoseni had said.
He, however, vowed that the Command would not be deterred or relent in its effort to ensure adequate security in areas under threat in Benue State.
