Breaking:APC insists tenure extension for NWC still stands....until NEC reverses self

Odigie-Oyegun, APC chairman

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the party’s national working committee (NWC) led by its chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun’s tenure extension still stands despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s rejection.

Reports have it that the party’s national publicity secretary Mallam Bolaji Abudullahi, made this known on Tuesday.

He said President Buhari only expressed a personal opinion, which cannot be considered the decision of the National Executive Council (NEC), which approved the extension in the first place.

Abdulahi insisted that the decision still stands until the NEC reverses itself.

He said: “The president’s position has not changed the position of NEC. NEC has not reversed itself on the tenure extension. The decision of the NEC on the one-year tenure extension still stands”.

“The president is not NEC. The NEC will have to reverse itself but right now, it has not done that. So, the tenure extension still stands.”

President Buhari had reportedly described as illegal the tenure elongation for the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, and other elected officials of the party.

The president demanded that the decision to extend the party’s national working committee (NWC) led by Oyegun, be reconsidered and reversed.

According to the president, who spoke at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, the extension decided upon at the party’s NEC meeting on February 28 is against the constitution of the APC.
