The Principal Secretary to Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi, Chief Clement Nweke, has urged traditional rulers in the state not to pay lip service in their support for the gocernor.
Nweke gave the advice on Thursday in Abakaliki while receiving the traditional ruler of Ebiri autonomous community in Nguzu, Afikpo-South Local Government Area (LGA), Chief Ndukwe Aroh, on behalf of the governor.
He noted that the Aroh was the first traditional ruler to make such a visit.
Nweke acknowledged that though traditional rulers did not engage in partisan politics, they played pivotal roles in directing their people toward the right path.
“We are aware that you are a traditional ruler and not a politician and you also do not engage in political issues or political troubles.
“We are however, aware that some of your subjects are creating political problems that the state government finds unpalatable.
“We therefore, urge you to call them to order and prove that all your warm sentiments for the governor are not based on lip service,’’ he said.
The principal secretary further urged Aroh to enlighten the trouble makers and the entire community members on the benefits of supporting the governor.
“You should make them understand that the governor belongs to them having come from the South Senatorial Zone and enjoys the massive support of other zones.
“The governor’s infrastructure strides in your area are testimonies of his love for your people and this is a golden opportunity that the people should not miss,’’ he said.
Mr Sunday Ugwuocha, Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on House of Assembly Matters, noted that the people were appreciative of the governor’s infrastructure projects in the area and entire council.
Ugwuocha, who hails from the area enumerated the projects by the government to include roads from Owutu to Nguzu-Edda, two bridges at Amagwu and streetlight projects from Ekoli to Nguzu among others.
Responding, Aroh said that he visited the governor on behalf of his people to thank him for the projects which had enhanced their wellbeing.
“These life-enhancing projects have never been witnessed by the people and they will surely express their appreciation in the desirable way,’’ he said. (NAN)
