Suspected hoodlums have reportedly set the Imo state secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on fire.
Reports have it that secretarial equipment, including files and documents have been destroyed.
A report credited to The Nation indicated that as at the time of filing the report, no fire fighter was seen on ground.
The state party chairman, Hilary Eke, when contacted, according to the report, was said to have confirmed the incident.
He reportedly claimed that the hoodlums attacked the secretariat at about 6.30pm on Friday, May 11.
“I have already petitioned the inspector general of police over the attack on the secretariat the other Saturday. My duty is to report to the police and the police have the duty to investigate,” he was quoted to have said.
The APC in Imo state has been embroiled in controversy over the recently concluded ward congresses in which some people were said to have hijacked sensitive materials meant for the exercise.
Governor Rochas Okorocha had on Sunday, May 6, ordered the arrest and arraignment of the committee members sent to monitor the ward congresses on Saturday, May 5, an action he reportedly took despite the state chairman of the party, Hilary Eke and the state organising secretary, Clement Chijioke Anozie, rating the exercise as successful in all the 305 wards of the 27 LGAs of the state.
