Lagos Gov Race: Jimi Agbaje decries vandalisation of his campaign billboards

Jimi Agbaje

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has alleged that the party’s campaign billboards had been vandalised.

Agbaje said this in a tweet on Saturday.

He also stated that some of the party’s deployment staff had been threatened and warned to desist.

He described the act as tyranny, adding, however, that the party refuses to be oppressed or pushed into a corner.

The PDP candidate wrote, “Early this morning our boards were vandalized and removed just as campaign commenced.

“Some of our deployment staff were also threatened with violence and warned to desist.

“Fellow Lagosians, we must stand against this sort of tyranny. This is no ordinary election. This is a fight for freedom. A fight for Democracy. A fight for Lagos. We will not be silent and we will not be oppressed or suppressed into a corner. This time around, Democracy must win.

“It has come to our notice that some of our campaign boards that were stationed on third mainland bridge were destroyed overnight. I must say this is very disappointing to see. This is not Freedom. This is not Democracy. This is not the Lagos the people want to identify with”.

His running mate, Haleemat Oluwayemisi, also took to Twitter to criticise the act.

Agbaje who had contested for the Lagos State governorship seat in 2015, but lost to incumbent governor Akinwunmi Ambode, is jostling for the seat with Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
