Sons and daughters of Amaudo and Umuobiara community in Akabo, Ikeduru local government area of Imo state, have donated the sum of N1.8 million to alleviate the sufferings of members of their community at home.
The amount is currently being disbursed to 160 households identified at home as part of the palliative measures to alleviate the hardship caused by the present COVID-19 pandemic.
Part of the money has been credited already into bank accounts of 128 members of the community whilst arrangement is in top gear to reach those without bank accounts with their own share of the fund.
Each household already credited received a minimum of ten thousand naira ( #10, 000). The money was donated by sons and daughters of the community resident abroad and in Nigeria cities.
The organisers of the initiative led by Pastor Jossy Ndu of Winners chapel, Epe, Lagos, said cash donation was chosen above food items because of logistics problems that purchasing the latter posed.
He also stressed that cash donation will ensure proper accountability and transparency.
