As news of collapse of the marriage between Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and Prophetess Noami Silekunola, continue to dominate the public space, attention seems to also be shifting to why the Ooni of Ife, unlike other Obas, is finding it difficult keeping the women married to him.
According to reports, he has had three failed marriages in recent times.
Adeyeye Ogunwusi was previously married to Adebukola Bombata in 2008, before he ascended the throne in 2015, according to a Punch report.
He also had a short lived romance with Omolara Olatunbosun who bore him a child, Adeola Anuoluwapo, in 1994.
Although his marriage to his wife, Olori Zaynab Wuraola Otiti, a Bini princess on March 2016 failed due to irreconcilable differences, the Ooni got married to Prophetess Noami Silekunola on October 17, 2018.
Olori Silekunola had bore a son for the crown and had public celebratory moments with the Ooni in the past. However, she told the public through her Instagram handle that she had decided to move away from the marriage to the traditional ruler recently. Silekunola said “let it be known that this decision to move on did not come because his majesty is married to another queen. As many would love to assume, throughout our life as a couple I was the only married married of the to him. There were side attractions, but it was never an issue”.
The Punch further reports: “Six women have been reportedly linked to the Ooni but none have been official described as his wife by the palace. They are Olori Ronke Ademiluyi, Afolashade Ashley Ogunwusi, Temitope Adesegun, Kemi Fadojutimi, Olapeju Esimai and Olori Lola.
“Ayaba Ronke Ademiluyi is a london trained lawyer who straddles the UK and Nigeria. She runs the Africa Fashion Week brand.
“Olori Ashley Ademiluyi also spends her time between London and Ile-Ife. She runs an NGO in her name, that caters for single mothers less privileged orphans.
Not much is known about Princess Temitope Adesegun, except her impressive resume. She is an alumnus of the Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard, currently works in the office of the minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola. She also runs Hope Alive Initiative Poverty Alleviation Advocacy, powered by the House of Odua, the name of the throne of the Ooni.
“Princess Kemi Fadojutimi is also a prominent member of the household of Oba Adeyeye, She had represented the crown at different functions in times past. Fadojutimi relocated from the USA to Nigeria recently. She is the CEO of All Eyes on Africa Media. She is also a director of Dare2 Dream Organisation, an advocacy agency.
“The rumours that one of Oni’s women, Oloori Lola, may be pregnant for the Oba remains largely unknown.”
