One of Nigeria’s leading crisis and perception management experts, Mr. Emeka Oparah, has been appointed Vice President, Corporate Communications & CSR, Airtel Africa Plc.
Oparah who has since resumed at his new office in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), will, by this development, be overseeing the company’s affairs in 14 countries.
Earlier, Oparah had announced his new appointment, which he titled “From Nigeria to Africa” on his Facebook page, and gave all glory “to The Great Architect Of The Universe!”
He wrote: “From Nigeria to Africa…!!! Today, after 19 and a half years in Airtel Nigeria, I formally resumed a new position in Dubai, UAE, as the Vice President Corporate Communications & CSR, Airtel Africa Plc, with responsibility for 14 countries.
“To all who supported me along the way as I journeyed in my career, I will forever be in debt of gratitude.
“All the glory goes to The Great Architect Of The Universe!”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Feb 1, 2022, Airtel confirmed the development and disclosed that Oparah will in his new assignment manage the image of Airtel Africa in its 14 African markets, including Nigeria, as spokesperson.
Before his new appointment, Oparah was director, corporate communication and corporate social responsibility (CSR), Airtel Nigeria.
“A highly respected crisis and perception management expert, Oparah has over 25 years experience in the Communications industry spanning Journalism, Advertising, Public Relations, Events, Sponsorships and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with 19 years in Airtel Nigeria. He rose from the position of Public Relations Manager to Head of PR, Events & Sponsorship and later Head of Corporate Communications & CSR before attaining his immediate past position as the Director Corporate Communications & CSR for Airtel Nigeria, a position he has held since June 2011,” his bio reads.
It goes further to note that “Prior to joining Airtel Nigeria, he had stints in Imo Newspapers Limited (publishers of The Statesman, Sunday Statesman and Statesman Extra); Patike Communications (a Public Relations Consulting firm), Candid Communications and Richland Communications (both Advertising Agencies) and Cadbury Nigeria, one of Nigeria’s foremost Food and Beverages Manufacturing Company, where he worked for 8 years as Media Relations Manager.
“A Mass Communications graduate of University of Nigeria, Oparah is a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA); International Association of Business Communicators (IABC); Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) and has attended numerous courses locally and internationally in Communications, Management and Leadership.”
Airtel had also last year, appointed Olusegun Ogunsanya as CEO to replace Raghunath Mandava, and just recently, Airtel Africa reportedly surpassed Dangote Cement to become the most capitalised company listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX).
