The Gombe State Agency for Community and Social Development (GSACSD) has commenced the community and group project launch and presentation of first tranche of cheques to about 30 communities and women groups across the state.
Making the presentation, the general manager of GSACSD, Malam Haruna Ahmed Imam, commended Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya for the prompt release of funds for the execution of the programme as well as support to the agency and other NG-CARES platforms.
According to him, Gombe was already in the second phase of the programme, a development he attributed to the governor's support.
He explained that work had already begun in all the communities in their various areas of needs, which include primary health care centres, classroom blocks, boreholes and nutrition interventions.
The Gombe State coordinator, Cares Unit, Mr. Michael Habila, who was part of the team, explained that Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) program, is a Federal Government intervention supported by World Bank.
He said it is intended to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on the poor and vulnerable, which the state further domesticated the program to Gombe State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (GO-CARES)
During the project launch, which was performed in all the benefitting communities, members of the Gombe State House of Assembly present, Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Kuri, Alhaji Adamu Pata and Siddi Buba, whose constituencies will benefit from the projects said the interventions will in no small measure, meet the needs of their people.
Those who participated in the signing of the financial agreement and presentation of the cheques at the occasion were, the Manager, Basic Services, Mr Labilwa Ismaila, that of Finance and Administration, Mallam Ibrahim Abubakar Gwani. His counterpart at Monitoring and Evaluation, Mallam Sani Adamu, also participated in the signing of the financial agreement and presentation of cheques.
Emir of Nafada Alhaji Muhammadu Dadum Hamza, that of Funakaye, Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed Kwairanga the 3rd and the Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Atiku, who was represented by Cigarin Akko and District Head of Barunde, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Atiku, were full of happiness and gratitude to the state governor for fulfilling his campaign promises.
The Community and Group Management Committees promised to work according to specification and within time frame, while expressing gladness for being chosen out of many others.
