Fed Varsity Gashua gets NUC's nod to introduce post graduate, undergraduate courses...Now has new DVC's.

The Federal University, Gashua, Yobe state, has secured approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence Post graduate and additional undergraduate programmes.

The awaited approval is coming just when the varsity Senate approved the appointment of Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere and Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu as Deputy Vice-Chancellors Academics and Administration respectively.

In separate releases signed and made available to our correspondent in Gombe by the institution's head of Information and Protocol, Malam Adamu Saleh, the Senate, under the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, had approved the nomination of the two Deputy Vice-Chancellors in line with the provisions of Section 4 of the Universities Act No. 11 of 1993.

On the approval for the commencement of the post graduate courses and introduction of new undergraduate programmes in the institution, Malam Adamu said, the approval followed the successful Resource verification of some programmes carried out by the National Universities Commission in July 2023. 

He also disclosed that the new programmes are to commence in the 2023/2024 academic session.

The list of the approved post-graduate programmes include, M.A and Ph.D. Islamic Studies, PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Accounting, M. Sc. and Ph.D. Taxation, according to the letter of approval from the NUC.

Others are; PGD, M.Sc. and PhD. Economics; PGD Geographic Information System, M.Sc. Ph.D. Geography, PGD, M.Sc. MPA and Ph.D. Public Administration and PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Chemistry, and PGD, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Mathematics.

The additional undergraduate courses to the existing programmes in the school now are; B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Ed. Guidance and Counseling, B.Ed. Educational Foundation, B. Sc. Ed. Agricultural Science and B.Ed. Primary Education. 

Others are; B.Sc. Ed. Mathematics, B. Sc. Ed. Physics, B. Sc. Ed. Chemistry, B.Sc. Ed. Biology, B. Library and Information Science, (BLIS) and B. Ed English Language.

According to Adamu, the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Maimuna Waziri, said the introduction of post-graduate programme will no doubt nurture and promote the spirit and culture of research in the university, which will in turn aid national development.

On the new DVC's, Malam Adamu disclosed that Dr. Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere, a reader in the Department of Geography and Director of the Centre for Gum Arabic Research, was overwhelmingly selected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics).

Adamu also said, Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu, a reader in the Department of English and the Director of Advancement, was selected as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration).

Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Dr. Mohammed Attai Yakubu, expressed appreciation to the vice chancellor, Professor Maimuna Waziri, and members of the Senate for finding them worthy for the appointment.

He assured the university community that they would discharge the responsibilities of their new offices with utmost dedication and commitment to duty.

Jajere joined the service of the Federal University, Gashua, on April 25, 2015, as a senior lecturer, rising to the rank of a reader in 2018. He has attended several national and International conferences, both within and outside Nigeria.

Mohammed Attai Yaubu, joined the services of Federal University Gashua in February 2018 in the Department of English as a Senior lecturer, rising to the rank of Reader in 2019.
