President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the nomination of Maryam Shetty (for Kano) from the ministerial list earlier sent to the Senate for screening. She has been replaced with Dr Maigari Mahmud.
This new twist, which also sees the inclusion of Festus Keyamo on the list, was revealed when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read out a letter by the President at plenary, Friday, August 4, 2023.
Recall that Festus Keyamo’s name was conspicuously missing on the first and then second list of nominees, a development that triggered a social media storm, with many taunting him over the absence despite his yeoman job for the Tinubu presidential campaign. With the new development, he has no doubt bounced back into reckoning in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet plans.
In all of these though, it is not yet clear if the submission is a replacement or an addition to the already 47 names earlier submitted in two batches to the Senate.
