Aglow International, a non denominational Christian Women Ministry, has appealed to State Governments to be transparent in the distribution of palliatives meant for the needy in the society.
The Federal Government of Nigeria had released billions of Naira to State Governments for palliatives meant to cushion effects of the removal of fuel subsidy on the people.
Mrs Lami Ibrahim Hassan, Northeast zone IV President of Aglow International, Nigeria, made the appeal in an interview with our correspondent during it's Northeast Regional Convention held at the CAN Centre, Gombe, with the theme: "Divine Direction, Isaiah 30:21".
She said, "our prayer is for God to intervene concerning this hardship faced by the people and for God to help the government to hear the cry and attend to the needs of the poor and vulnerable.”
According to her, government should be able to come to the rescue of those passing through pains such as the widows and orphans, adding, "some people don't even have what to eat. We are praying that the palliative being distributed by the State governments will reach out to those that are in dire need and those actually meant for it,” she appealed.
She explained that Aglow International is an interdenominational Christian Women Ministry that brings Christian Women together to impact positively on their lives both physically and spiritually.
She said, "we want women to be touched and transformed so that when they go back home they will be better mothers in their homes, Churches and communities because of what they acquired here.
"We want women to be self reliant economically. We train them to avoid being a burden to their husbands, but to be a blessing to them, families and and society at large.
"Women should not be lazy, dependent on their husbands or government, they should rise up and do something for the benefit of the home such as businesses to help their husbands, children.
"In Aglow, we are being trained all around, we don't sit down and depend on government. We're encouraged to do something to help the government so that in this hardship, you will be a help to others, the less privileged, orphans, widows, those in need. You can't reach out when you are doing nothing", she stressed.
Also speaking, Mrs. Grace Samuel, National Vice President in charge of leadership and training, Aglow International, Nigeria, said the biannual convention is held rotationally within the chapters, regions, and internationally.
She said, with close to 200 chapters across the country, Aglow International, Nigeria, has strengthened the capacity of women in the ministry and has been penetrating more unentered areas to keep women aglow for Jesus Christ.
The three day event witnessed several activities such as, lectures, sermons, music, prayer sessions among many others as well as goodwill messages from Jane Hansen Hoyt, President/CEO, Aglow International and Mrs. Bisi Adeluyi, President, Aglow International Nigeria.
