Winners of the 2023 Nigerian Communication Commission's (NCC) talent hunt research through Hackathon have emerged.
The winners, Know-Now Limited; Solaris Tech Hub and Spex Care Limited, were all awarded N10m each after emerging tops in three different categories.
Announcing the winners during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Talent Hunt Research Through Hackathon held at NCC's head office, Abuja, Thursday 26th October, 2023, the chairman, panel of judges, Professor Mohammed Hajiya, announced that in the Blockchain Solution category, Know-Now Limited emerged winners while in the Renewable Energy Solutions category, Solaris Green Tech Hub emerged winners.
The third category, which is in Assistive Technology Solutions, Spex Care Limited emerged winner.
Earlier at the commencement of the event, Alhaji Ismail Adedigba, NCC's Director of Research and Development, stated that innovation in communication Technologies stand as the driving force behind the very essence of the Telecommunication Industry today.
According to him, "Technology has emerged as the catalyst that unleashes unprecedented potential in ways we could scarcely fathom.
He said: "Consequently, the advancement of the telecommunication sector and doing so in a manner that is sustainable and ethical should be a collective concern for all of us.
"The rate of growth experienced by the telecommunication sector, thanks to the innovative research, is nothing short of enviable pope.
"It is essential that the vision of the Commission for this competition resonate profoundly all stakeholders in general and accelerating our collective prosperity through technical effeciency agenda of the Honourable Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy", he emphasized.
He reiterated NCC's unwavering commitment to building and strengthening the bridge between tech hubs and the telecommunication industry, saying, "we will persistently encourage innovative research that not only mirrors global innovations but also tailor them to local contexts.”
In his keynote address, Engineer Ubale Maska, Executive Commissioner, Technical Services, NCC, said the talent hunt was of paramount importance as it perfectly align with NCC's core objectives imbedded within it's Strategic Vision Plan (SVP) for the years 2023 - 2025, which is to foster the development of cutting-edge technologies from rigorous research, thereby catalysing sustainable economic growth and overall development within Nigeria.
He said this year's theme focused on the three themes competed in, Blockchain enabled Data protection for solution for enhancing Regulating Compliance, Assistive Technology Solutions for the elderly and people with disabilities as well as Technology Solutions for renewable energy in rural areas.
He revealed also that, "the competition is not confined to the grand prize of the N10m awarded to each of the winners from the three thematic areas for development of their solutions, but goes beyond this.”
He added that, "as the Commission takes a holistic approach to support these promising innovations, we closely monitor the progress of these promising innovations as they evolve into full fledge prototypes".
There were 81 entries from which 12 were shortlisted, three emerged winners. The remaining nine innovators from the 12 were given N500,000 consolation prizes each with certificate of commendation for their participation in the annual contest hosted by the Commission.
