Authorities of the Gombe State Police Command has stated that it is on the trail of a gang of kidnappers, who forcefully abducted a house wife and her brother in-law from their house in Shabewa village of Dukku Local Government Area, Gombe State.

A statement from the Command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Mahid Muazu Abubakar, Sunday evening, October 8, 2023, who called for calm, appealed to residents to disregard misleading information being circulated by mischief makers whom he said are bent on portraying the state in bad light for their selfish interests.

Mahid, while confirming the incident said, contrary to reports going viral on social media outlets that many people were kidnapped at Shabewa village, the facts of the case is that on 08/10/2023 at about 0255hrs suspected kidnappers invaded the residence of one Umar Sambo 'm' of Shabewa ward in Dukku LGA with guns and other dangerous weapons and whisked away with his wife and brother.

According to Mahid, when the kidnappers entered Umar Sambo's residence in the early hours of Sunday, asking of his whereabouts from his first wife, "fortunately, he did not sleep in her room and the man was alerted and escaped into the bush before the kidnappers enter the second wife's room", the PPRO said.

He said, "but after searching all rooms and could not find him, they kidnapped one of his wives, namely Amina Usman Aliyu, and his brother, Mustapha Sambo 'm' of the same address".

He said the Police patrol teams in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters are already on the trail of the kidnappers inside the bush following directives by the Commissioner of Police, Etim Oqua, to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.

The CP also assured the good citizens of Dukku and the state at large of the command's readiness and commitment to securing their lives and properties.

"The Command urges residents to remain calm and provide us with useful information that will aid in the quick rescue of the victims through the command's emergency number 08150567771," the Police statement said.
