South Africa secures semifinal spot in AFCON after dramatic penalty shootout victory over Cape Verde

South Africa's Bafana Bafana emerged victorious against Cape Verde's Blue Sharks in a tense penalty shootout, securing a spot in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. 

The match, which took place on Saturday, February 3, 2024, ended in a 0-0 draw after extra time, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout where South Africa won 2-1

The former Manchester United player Bebe missed the opening shot for Cape Verde, and South Africa's goalkeeper Ronwen Williams saved four penalties, playing a crucial role in his team's victory.

By this victory, South Africa will now battle Nigeria on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the Stade de Bouaké, Ivory Coast.
