Nigeria's star striker, Victor Osimhen, was unable to travel with the Super Eagles to Bouake for their upcoming match against South Africa, a statement by the NFF has said.
Osimhen, the statement noted, did not fly with the rest of the Super Eagles as the team departed Abidjan for Bouake on Monday night, February 5, 2024 aboard a Cote D’Ivoire flight.
Left behind in Abidjan due to an abdominal discomfort, Osimhen is said to be under close medical observation with a team member also staying behind to monitor his condition.
“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5pm,” the statement from the Super Eagles read.
This development comes ahead of Nigeria's crucial Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday.
