Gombe State governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, recently recognized the outstanding achievements of Hajara Ibrahim and Shu'aibu Nazir in the field of Qur'anic recitation.
Hajara Ibrahim, the winner of the International Qur'anic Recitation Competition in Jordan, was awarded a commendable sum of N5 million for bringing pride to the state. In addition to the monetary reward, she has also secured a hajj seat for the upcoming pilgrimage, courtesy of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Furthermore, her Qur'anic studies institution, Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya in Gombe, received a generous donation of N5 million in recognition of their role in training Hajara.
Shu'aibu Nazir, who excelled in the 40 Hibz category at the 2024 JIBWIS National Qur'anic competition, was also acknowledged for his achievement and awarded a sum of N2 million by the governor.
Hajara Ibrahim, a 200 Level Botany Student at the Gombe State University represented Nigeria and won first position beating other contestants from 39 countries in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category at the 18th Edition of the Hashemite Jordan International Qur'anic Competition for Female.
During the presentation of the gifts at the Government House, Governor Inuwa also offered a full scholarship package to cover Hajara's education from her current level through to the Ph.D.
While reaffirming his administration's commitment to enhancing the provision of high-quality education to the people of Gombe State in both formal and non-formal education systems, Governor Inuwa expressed immense pride in the achievements of Hajara Ibrahim and Shu'aibu Nazir.
He described their triumph as a remarkable accomplishment that brings honor to Gombe State and elevates its reputation even on the global stage, which is worthy of grand celebration
"I am incredibly proud to welcome Hajara Ibrahim and Shu'aibu Nazir, both champions of Qur'anic competitions, with one winning at global stage and the other, nationally.
"These illustrious daughter and son have brought great honour to Gombe State, elevating our reputation, particularly Hajara Ibrahim's victory at global scale.
"Their achievements are truly deserving of celebration and recognition. By honouring them, we aim to inspire others and ensure Gombe continues to produce individuals of their caliber," the governor said.
In his remarks, Prof. Tahir Inuwa, who spoke on behalf of the management of Abubakar Siddiq Islamiyya and Hajara Ibrahim's family, conveyed their appreciation to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the honour bestowed upon them.
The winners, Hajara Ibrahim and Shu'aibu Nazir, both expressed their gratitude to the governor for the gesture, pledging to remain exemplary ambassadors of Gombe State.
No doubt, these gestures of appreciation not only celebrate the talent and dedication of these young individuals but also highlight the importance of promoting excellence in Qur'anic education within the state.
As a matter of fact, Governor Yahaya's generosity towards these champions serves as an inspiration for others to strive for excellence and contribute positively to their communities.
