The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of Finidi George as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.

This decision, according to reports, follows the recommendation of the NFF's Technical and Development Committee.

Finidi George, who previously served as the assistant to former head coach José Santos Peseiro, has now been elevated to the top job. Peseiro voluntarily left the position after leading the Super Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.

George had already taken charge of the national team in an interim capacity, leading the squad during two friendly matches in Morocco last month. His performance in these matches has now been rewarded with a permanent appointment as the new Super Eagles head coach.

Finidi George's Background

Finidi George is a former Nigerian international player who enjoyed a successful career, particularly during his time with Dutch club Ajax. He was a key member of the Super Eagles squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and represented Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.

After retiring from playing, George has been involved in coaching, serving as an assistant to various national teams and clubs. His appointment as the new Super Eagles head coach represents a significant step in his career and an opportunity to lead one of Africa's most prominent national teams.
