Nicki Minaj arrest at Amsterdam Airport over suspected drug possession

American rapper Nicki Minaj was taken into custody at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands on Saturday, May 25, 2024, amid allegations of carrying soft drugs.
The 41-year-old artist was en route to the United Kingdom for a concert performance when the incident occurred.

According to Minaj's social media updates, law enforcement officials discovered the drugs after inspecting items in her luggage during a customs check.

The rapper has since taken to social media to share her side of the story, detailing the events that led to her arrest.

In a series of social media posts, Minaj claimed police said they found drugs in her luggage after items were checked by customs.

“They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when ppl are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal.”

The music star also filmed what appeared to be an airport official asking her to have her luggage checked.

Minaj later wrote via X: “It’s a 45 minute to an hour flight. So they’re probably trying to stall for about 4 hours”.

In the footage, a police officer is heard telling Minaj: “You are under arrest”.

The officer said he wants to take the rapper into custody for “carrying drugs”.

This was despite her claim that she was not holding any contraband.

In another post, Minaj wrote: “This is Amsterdam btw, where weed is legal”.

Confirming the development, Robert van Kapel, a spokesperson for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, told NBC News: “We can confirm that we have arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol airport because of possession of soft drugs”.
