Tinubu to address National Assembly, commissions library on 1st anniversary

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday to mark his first year in office and celebrate 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria. 

The President will not make a nationwide broadcast as part of the anniversary celebrations. In his speech, Tinubu is expected to highlight the achievements of his administration and Nigeria's democratic journey since the military handed over power in 1999. 

According to a press release signed by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, former Senate President David Mark, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and former military ruler General Abdulsalami Abubakar are also scheduled to address the parliament. 

After the speeches, President Tinubu, the press statement also stated, will commission the newly built National Assembly Library and Resource Center, which will be renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building.

The event comes as Tinubu marks his first year in office amidst a mix of achievements and challenges. While the President has taken bold steps like removing fuel subsidies and liberalizing the foreign exchange market, his administration has also faced criticism over rising inflation, insecurity, and perceived nepotism in political appointments.

As Tinubu addresses the National Assembly, Nigerians will be watching closely to see how he plans to tackle the country's pressing issues and fulfill his campaign promises in the coming years.
