SACKED(?)….Finidi George

By Rose Moses

Following a dismal run in the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifying series, where the Super Eagles have struggled to make a significant impact, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to relieve Finidi George of his duties as the head coach of the national team.

The decision, according to information just reaching Newsmart, was made after a crisis-managing meeting, where the NFF announced plans to hire an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks. This move is aimed at improving the team's performance ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

In other words, Finidi George's tenure as the substantive coach may have come to an end after just two competitive matches and two friendly matches. The NFF has also resolved to strengthen its Technical Department by recruiting more qualified personnel. Additionally, the Technical and Development Sub-Committee will be reorganized with immediate effect.

This significant change in the Super Eagles' coaching structure is expected to bring about a fresh perspective and new strategies to help the team recover from its current slump and achieve better results in the future.
