Senate approves N98.5 billion 2024 supplementary budget for FCT

Senate has passed the N98.5 billion supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) for the year 2024.

The approval was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the plenary session on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, following the consideration and adoption of a report by the Committee on FCT, presented by Senator Mohammed Ibrahim representing Yobe South.

Before the report was considered, Senator Ireti Kingibe raised a point of order to express her discontent at being excluded from the activities of the FCT committee, of which she is a member.

The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, acknowledged her point of order and advised her to follow the rules by submitting her complaints in the form of a motion to be presented before the house.

The Bill was initially passed by the House of Representatives last week.

Channels Television had reported that President Bola Tinubu recently presented the bill to the parliament, reminding the lawmakers that the money was needed to address critical infrastructure in the nation’s capital not captured in the 2024 budget.
