Federal high court nullifies Edo PDP governorship primary election

A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) primary election that produced Asue Ighodalo as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming Edo State election as invalid

The court ruled that the primary election, held on February 22, 2024, violated both the Electoral Act 2022 and PDP guidelines by unlawfully excluding 378 delegates who were supposed to vote.

Justice Inyang Ekwo, who delivered the judgment, nullified the primary election after it was challenged in a suit instituted by Kelvin Mohammed on behalf of the aggrieved delegates.

Justice Ekwo held that both the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 and the PDP Guidelines were violated in the conduct of the primary election at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin.
