Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina |
Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country amid escalating anti-government protests that have resulted in over 300 deaths.
On August 5, she departed via military helicopter as protesters stormed her palace in Dhaka, defying a national curfew.
Reports indicate she is heading to Agartala, India.
The unrest began with student demands to abolish job quotas but intensified into calls for her resignation following violent clashes with police, marking one of the worst periods of violence since Bangladesh's independence in 1971.
