Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, welcomed his predecessor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to the government house in Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, August 12, 2024. This marks Ambode's first visit since leaving office in 2019.
In a post on X, Sanwo-Olu shared that their discussions centered on "the future of Lagos and building on the solid foundation already in place" for the state's development.
“Today, I welcomed my brother and predecessor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, back to Lagos House on a courtesy visit,” the governor wrote.
“Our conversation centred around the future of Lagos and building on the solid foundation already in place. I value his perspective as we all work together to ensure that Lagos remains on the path of growth and development.”
Akinwunmi Ambode, who served as Lagos governor from 2015 to 2019, was the first to do just one term in that office since the return of democracy in 1999.
His recent courtesy visit to current Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who denied him opportunity of a second term by defeating at the poll, marked their first public meeting at the Lagos government house since Sanwo-Olu took office in 2019.
In June 2023, though, Sanwo-Olu attended Ambode's 60th birthday celebration, and earlier this year, Ambode was present at Sanwo-Olu's daughter's wedding in Lagos.
