Nigeria's Flora Ugwunwa has achieved a remarkable silver medal in the women's Javelin F54 event at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
With a throw of 19.26 meters, she secured the second place in the competition.
Ugwunwa's performance was overshadowed only by Uzbekistan's Nurkhon Kurbanova, who set a new world record with a throw of 21.12 meters. The bronze medal was claimed by Iran's Elham Salehi, who achieved a throw of 16.24 meters.
This silver medal marks Nigeria's first in the women's Javelin category and contributes to the country's total of four medals so far at the 2024 Paralympics.
For the 40-year-old Ugwunwa, this achievement adds to her impressive Paralympic record, having previously won two gold medals at the Rio and Tokyo Games.
Other Nigerian athletes who have contributed to the country's medal tally include Onyinyechi Mark, Eniola Bolaji, and Esther Nworgu.
