NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye in a press statement, revealed that petrol prices could reach N1,019 per litre in Borno State and N999.22 in Abuja, Sokoto, and Kano.
In southern states like Oyo and Rivers, according to the statement, the price will be N960 per litre, with Lagos seeing the lowest price at N950 per litre.
This pricing announcement was coming amid disputes between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery regarding the cost of petrol.
While Soneye claimed that NNPCL purchased petrol at N898 per litre, Dangote's representatives labeled this statement as "misleading" and urged Nigerians to await a formal pricing announcement set to begin on October 1, 2024.
The controversy obviously highlights ongoing tensions in Nigeria's energy sector, where the new talk is that market forces dictate fuel prices rather than government regulations.
