NCC takes action against Starlink for unauthorized price increase

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has initiated pre-enforcement action against Starlink for a significant price hike in its subscription services without prior approval.

Effective October 3, 2024, Starlink raised its monthly fee from N38,000 to N75,000—a 97% increase, along with a 34% rise in hardware costs.

The NCC, in a three-paragraph press statement signed by a Reuben Muoka, NCC’s Director of Public Affairs, said this move violates Sections 108 and 111 of the Nigerian Communications Act, which mandates regulatory approval for tariff changes.

The commission he said, aims to uphold regulatory standards and protect consumer interests amid rising inflation claims cited by Starlink.
