The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have rescheduled their National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from October 24, 2024, to November 28, 2024.
This decision was made during a consultative meeting at the Bauchi State Governors’ Lodge.
A communiqué from Senator Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, emphasized that the postponement aims to strengthen party unity in preparation for the Ondo gubernatorial election on November 16, 2024, with the goal of challenging the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) government in the state.
The meeting also sought an end to disunity among members.
“Reiterating the need for unity in the face of efforts by detractors to divide the party, the meeting called on all members to shun divisive utterances that could undermine ongoing efforts at strengthening the party to effectively play its role as the country’s main opposition, preparatory to taking over in 2027,” the communique read in part.
The meeting was attended by the PDP Governors Forum, its Board of Trustees, National Working Committee (NWC), National Assembly Leadership of the PDP Caucus and Forum of Former Governors of the party
The meeting comes in the wake of an internal crisis currently rocking the party.
The PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had suspended the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Ajibade.
In response, Ologunagba and Ajibade suspended Damagum and Anyanwu, leading to a stalemate, which was broken by the PDP Governors Forum.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, had after a meeting with the feuding party leaders, called for a ceasefire and a return to the status quo.
