In a significant demonstration, federal government pensioners have effectively closed the Federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja, demanding immediate payment of their accrued pension rights.
Led by Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, National Chairman of the National Union of Contributory Pensioners, the protesters highlighted that many retirees since 2003 have not received their entitlements under the old pension scheme.
The Pension Act mandates that these accrued rights be transferred to Pension Fund Administrators upon retirement. However, delays persist, leaving many pensioners without access to their funds from the Contributory Pension Scheme initiated in 2004.
