Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy has gifted Seun Kuti a stunning custom diamond chain featuring a pendant of Fela Kuti.
The chain, meticulously crafted with intricate design, symbolizes a powerful moment of connection between two generations of Afrobeat musicians.
During their first encounter, Burna Boy presented Seun with the diamond-iced neckpiece, which features a pendant depicting Fela Kuti.
Seun Kuti shared the special moment on Instagram, Wednesday, December 18, 2024, expressing gratitude for the meaningful gift.
Seun expressed his appreciation thus:
“From @burnaboygram with love. We actually met properly for the first time and ODOGWU send gift. Thanks bro. Big love,” he wrote.
The chain represents more than just jewelry - it’s a tribute to Fela Kuti, whom Burna Boy has consistently cited as a major inspiration.
By gifting this custom piece to Fela’s youngest son, Burna Boy demonstrates deep respect for Afrobeat’s pioneering legacy.
Burna Boy who has often spoken about the profound influence Fela has had on his music and career, once described him as his “inspiration and childhood hero.”
He has also rejected comparisons between himself and Fela, calling them “dishonourable.”
“Fela is my inspiration and my childhood hero, so if you think comparing me to Fela is honorable, it is actually not,” he said.
“It actually makes me feel weird. Fela was Fela, and if it was not for Fela, there probably would not be any me, so I do not understand the comparison.”
Burna Boy rose to prominence with the release of “Like to Party,” the lead single from his debut album L.I.F.E (2013).
This album, which sold over 40,000 copies on its first day, established him as a significant figure in the Nigerian music scene.
He has since garnered numerous accolades, including the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album in 2021 for his fifth studio album, Twice As Tall (2020).
