Flamingos demolish Niger Republic 9-0 in WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup opener


Nigeria’s U17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, showcased an extraordinary performance by defeating Niger Republic 9-0 in the second match of the 2024 WAFU B U17 Girls’ Cup in Ghana. 

The match, held on December 12, saw Shakirat Moshood shine brightly, scoring four goals and earning Player of the Match honors.

The Flamingos began the game with a goal from Aishat Animashaun just five minutes in. Moshood then took control, netting her first goal from a stunning 35-yard shot in the 17th minute. She quickly added two more goals, leading to a halftime score of 7-0 after contributions from Janet Akekoromowei.


In the second half, Peace Effiong capped off the scoring with a long-range strike, solidifying Nigeria’s dominance. 

This victory follows Ghana’s earlier win against Benin, setting an exciting tone for the tournament. 

The Flamingos will face Côte d’Ivoire next on Monday.
