The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Lagos State Chapter has awarded the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its exemplary flood preparedness and response campaign in 2024.
The accolade, recognizing outstanding crisis communication in government, was presented by NIPR State Chapter Chair, Mrs. Comfort Obot Nwankwo, to NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, during a ceremony in Abuja on January 24, 2025
In her remarks, the NIPR chairman said the selection of NEMA was arrived after a rigorous assessment in which it was found that the agency's "campaign stood out for its innovative and effective communication strategies, utilizing digital platforms, public engagement, and timely updates to educate the public and coordinate responses during Nigeria's annual flood seasons."
Responding, the Director General NEMA, Mrs Zubaida Umar, appreciated the NIPR for the award and dedicated it to staff of the agency across the country for their commitment to work.
She reiterated the commitment of the agency to continue to enhance its public sensitization on the dangers of common disasters in the country and promote risk management among the people.
Acknowledging that there is still work to be done to curtail the occurrence of avoidable disasters, she also expressed the readiness of the agency to continue to partner with professional bodies like the NIPR and the media to foster public awareness in the country.
