Transformer vandal meets fatal shock in Ogun State


An unidentified man was electrocuted while attempting to vandalize a transformer in Akute, Ogun State. 

The community has been struggling with theft and damage to electrical wires. 

Ogun State Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed in a press statement that the man climbed into the transformer house and was electrocuted while trying to cut a wire. 

The incident was reported by the chairman of the Irewole community, who discovered the body during an inspection.

“At about 10:20 am, on Friday, the chairman of the Irewole community, a man identified as Rasheed Ajagbe, reported to the station that for a while, the community had been experiencing theft and damage of electrical wires from their power transformer. 

“He reported that around 7 am, he received a call to inspect the transformer and he went there with other community executives.

“When they arrived at the transformer house, they found the lifeless body of an unidentified individual and saw that the man had attempted to vandalise a wire, which then resulted in electrocution,” the statement partly read.

Odutola stated that a team of detectives visited the scene and took photographs.

“Once we got the report, detectives visited the scene to investigate and take photographs. The PHCN office was contacted and the corpse was taken and deposited at General Hospital Ifo mortuary, for autopsy and preservation,” the statement added.
