Nigeria’s national grid has collapsed again, plunging many Nigerians into darkness. The grid lost power generation on Wednesday morning, a few minutes after 11:00 am. Sources within power generation companies confirmed a general grid disturbance.
Reports indicate that the power went off before noon due to a trip-off, causing most power plants on the grid to lose generation. Hourly power generation plummeted from 4,064 megawatts at 11:00 am to 1,203MW at 12:00 pm, and further to 0.00MW by 1:00 pm.
This is the second time the grid has collapsed in 2025, with the first incident occurring in January.
In 2024, the grid experienced 12 collapses and over 100 failures in the past 10 years.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the incident on its X handle, noting a system disturbance on the national grid at 11:34 am, which caused a power outage across its franchise areas.
The company added that while gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, they are working with stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as the grid is stabilized.

On its X handle on Wednesday, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the development thus:
“Dear Valued Customer, We regret to inform you that a system disturbance occurred on the national grid at 11:34 am today causing a power outage across our franchise areas.
“While gradual restoration of power supply has commenced, please be assured that we are working closely with relevant stakeholders to fully restore electricity as soon as the grid is stabilised. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work to serve you better,” the post reads.
