Nengi Rebecca Hampson, a reality TV star from Big Brother Naija, has responded to rumors that she is pregnant by a state governor in Nigeria.
The rumors began circulating on social media on February 8, alleging that the BBNaija season 5 contestant was expecting a child with a married governor who already has four wives.
In response to the rumors, Nengi confirmed her pregnancy but clarified that it is not with any governor. She addressed the rumors in a post on X, stating that she felt the need to speak out because the rumors involved people she holds in high regard and she didn’t want a beautiful part of her life to be made ugly.
Taking to social media, Nengi dismissed the news that has captured many in Nigeria over responsibility for her pregnancy, making it clear that she is not expecting a child for any governor.
She wrote: “As much as I believe social media lies aren’t worth my time, I’ve come to accept that we live in a world where people are quick to spread lies without limits. So let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor,” she wrote.
“I’ve chosen to speak because this isn’t just an attack on me; it involves people I hold in the highest regard, and I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly,” she added.
“While I continue to mind my own business and enjoy my pregnancy in PEACE, I wish y’all love and a happy Valentine’s weekend,” she concluded.
Nengi gained fame as the second runner-up in the 2020 lockdown edition of BBNaija. Following her appearance on the show, she was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development to Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State.
Nengi is also an entrepreneur and brand ambassador, owning a footwear line called Shoes by Flora, and is dedicated to empowering young girls and combating gender-based violence
